From UWSMPH - Department of Anesthesiology
The UW Department of Anesthesiology actively supports resident involvement in global health. A number of our faculty are active in overseas medicine in the developing world and provide mentorship and opportunities for many residents to gain overseas experience during their training.
In the CA3 year the Department funds a 1-4 week ‘elective’ time for residents to explore various training opportunities. Residents may use vacation/meeting time or apply for Accredited Resident Rotation time.
Examples of resident global health experiences in recent years include:
- UW Pediatric / Adult Plastic Surgery Team Trip: Nicaragua.
- UW Cardiac Surgery Trip: Dominican Republic
- ENT in La Cieba Honduras
- UW Neurosurgical
- UW Orthopedics/Spine
Examples of potential upcoming global health experiences include:
- Peds Ortho - Haiti.
- Peds Ortho - Honduras
- Peds Neurosurgery - Kenya
